Reasons Why Dads Should Use Blogging As Their First Small Business
Today I wanted to supply you with some tips and reasons why blogging is a work at home dad’s best, first small business.
Blogging is fluid. It can be lucrative. It provides you with freedom and the time to spend more quality daylight hours with your family. Sure, it takes a lot of hard work but in the end it will may just have you wondering why you didn’t take up this whole “Internet business thing” a long time ago. A word of caution: there is no sure fire way to make money online right now. But, there are proven methods that will show you how to make money as soon as possible.
Loving what you do is imperative to your maintaining a quality of life (and that of your family’s as well). Knowing how to do it well is your responsibility for the life you choose. Consider these factors when you are thinking about starting a blog or website.
“How to” Blog Information Inundation
There is almost a never ending amount of research on how to blog on the web today. Everything is at your fingertips; from SEO to “blog what you’re passionate about”, to which platform to use, which plugins to use, and how to monetize your blogs. They are all within reach. Everything you’ll ever need to know is at your calling and a Google search away.
Count your blessings! Most entrepreneurs of small business’ don’t have it as easy. The tricks and rules of the trade are guarded secrets that are akin to the McDonald’s “special sauce” recipe. And like the conglomerate’s fast food secret, the whispering and ingredients have been out for a while. All you have to do is read, learn and mix well.
The Cost of Blogging Is NEAR Insignificant
Yeah, I didn’t much mind for that subheading either, because it’s subjective. Maybe you’re a dad who has the extra cash to lay down a monthly Hostgator fee to host your domain. And, maybe you’re not. It really doesn’t matter as long as you blog. There are free platforms that are simple to use and will have you blogging in minutes and then there are sites that you may have to outsource the work to get it set up.
This is a hosted site with its own domain. It cost me $15 for the domain name and I get a $9.95 per month package from Hostgator with unlimited additional domains. Not a bad deal. When I want to start a new blog I just purchase the domain, find a programmer on Elance to do the work of putting it up and getting it operating optimally and then start blogging!
Measurable. Everything is Measurable
Having been in the Army for the last 17 years I love stuff that is quantifiable. Knowing the amount of unique visitors, page viewed per visitor, country viewed from, most popular content and Adsense clicks are all stats that are paramount in this business. And, like a friendly dude in the Warrior Forum told me recently: “If you’re not constantly testing with different layouts that may or may not be working for you then you could find yourself falling behind, real quick.
Interest Laden and Built For You
You get to work on something you’re passionate about! Pleeease tell me that you ARE passionate about the web, blogging, SEO and helping other people! Serious inquiries only. All others need not apply.
It’s imperative that you enjoy what you’re blogging about, dads! Otherwise, you’ll find this business is just like any other business; you’ll get up every day not wanting to do what you do for living and go to bed every night hating the prospect of having to do it all over again in the morning. This results in a bad blog, with bad content, and a bad attitude at the helm-”a sour blog!” Once you’ve made the decision to work at home you must do everything within your power to make it work.
Find something you like to write about, if not totally passionate about, then learn everything there is about it and…blog, blog, blog. Study other blogs. Master search engine optimization (SEO).
If any of this seems like it’s boring to you, then you may want to look into another way of making money at home.
Flexibility to Transition
How many other personal, small-businesses are there going be where you can work your 9-to-5 job and successfully transition into a new, personal one. It just doesn’t come along that often.
I started getting serious about blogging when my career in the Army would be over in the next five years. I made plans. I have goals. I want to get my home business at a level where I can support my family prior to getting out of the Army. Will it work? Only time will tell, and I may have to switch a blog or two before I find my “money-maker.” The freedom to do so, however-and still maintain a full-time job with full-time benefits while supporting my family-is priceless. And for a work-at-home dad job…this is actually a lot of fun, very rewarding, and YES making some money!
